This Year's Class - First Impressions
Some of the things that the students were interested in that I briefly mentioned but we won't really cover in depth this school year are the following:
- Abraham Lincoln's wife was a spendthrift.
- George Washington prevented a soldier's riot by putting on his glasses.
- the diet and lifestyle of a raccoon
One thing I really appreciate about this class is how creative and artistic this class is. I'm excited to see how each and every student will grow and mature over the course of the school year. Two artistic things that we will be doing this school year is writing a personal classroom journal and making a scrapbook. The purpose of these two creative projects is to have some sort of physical memorabilia that they can look back on with fond memories. I told the class that the journal will be an open book journal and that parents will have access to their thoughts and questions. So if you're interested in their questions and their experiences in fourth grade, feel free to come into the classroom and look through the students' journals.
Last week, I read a lot to the students the picture book "The Bad Case of the Tattle Tongue" which talks about the difference between tattling and reporting. This week we will read the picture book "Rosie Revere engineer" which talks about the difference between someone laughing with you versus someone laughing at you. It also talks about the scientific process and how science is about how the first trial in inventing something may not be successful, but that does not mean that the science experiment was a failure.
